How about Perseus?
What was the name of Perseus' mother?Heroes in Greek Mythology: Perseus
Danae. King Acrisius of Argos imprisoned his daughter Danae in a tower of bronze to avoid her having a son who, it was foretold, would murder him.
What god fathered Perseus?Heroes in Greek Mythology: Perseus
Zeus. Zeus visited Danae in a shower of gold ...
According to Hermes, who was Perseus told to see about the location of Medusa?Heroes in Greek Mythology: Perseus
The Gray Sisters. Only the Gray Sisters could tell the way.
What princess did Perseus save from the sea monster on his way home?Heroes in Greek Mythology: Perseus
    Andromeda.
What king who had plotted to marry Danae was killed instantaneously at the sight of Medusa?Heroes in Greek Mythology: Perseus
Polydectes. The tricky Polydectes got his own medicine ... Acrisius was killed as well, fulfilling his prophesy.
Who was the maternal grandfather of Perseus?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Acrisius. Acrisius was the king of Argos and the maternal grandfather of Perseus. Adrastus was the leader of the Seven Against Thebes. Aeacus was the king of Aegina for whom Zeus created the Myrmidons. Aegisthus was the lover of Clytemnestra and slayer of Agamemnon.
Why did Perseus's grandfather lock his mother Danae in a bronze tower?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
A prophesy said that her son would kill him and he wanted her to remain a virgin forever. When Acrisius consulted an oracle, it told him that he would be killed by his own grandson. Terrified at this prospect, Acrisius locked his daughter Danae in a bronze tower so that no man could ever impregnate her. Unfortunately for him, Zeus desired Danae and was determined to have her. Her turned into golden rain and entered her tower, making her pregnant with Perseus.
Onto the shore of which island did Perseus and Danae wash up after being locked in a chest and thrown into the sea?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Seriphos. When Acrisius found out the Danae was pregnant, he was still determined that the child would not survive. He could not kill them outright without incensing the Harpies, who punished those who kill family members, so he locked them in a box and threw them into the sea. That way, if they died, it was Poseidon's fault and not his. Zeus, however, protected them and they washed up on the shore of the island of Seriphos. Danae and Perseus were found by a kind fisherman, Dictys, who adopted them.
Why did King Polydectes ask Perseus to fetch the head of Medusa?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
He wanted Perseus gone permanently so he could marry Danae. Polydectes, the brother of Dictys and king of Seriphos, desired Perseus's mother Danae. Perseus, however, objected to the marriage, and Polydectes devised a way to get rid of him for good. Knowing that Perseus did not possess many worldly goods, Polydectes requested a wedding present from him; when Perseus asked him what he wanted, Polydectes asked him for the head of Medusa, hoping that Perseus would perish trying to procure it and he could marry Danae without interference.
In Ovid's "Metamorphoses", he mentions that Perseus turned which character, more commonly associated with Heracles, to stone?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Atlas. Although it clashes with the story that Heracles later asked Atlas for the Apples of the Hesperides, Ovid writes that Perseus turned the formidable Titan into stone by showing him the head of Medusa.
What shield of Athena did Perseus use as a mirror to slay Medusa?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Aegis. The Aegis, although technically the shield of Zeus, was carried by Athena. She let Perseus borrow it so he could slay Medusa, since looking at her directly would have turned him into stone. After he had returned to Seriphos and turned Polydectes into stone, Perseus placed the head of Medusa on the aegis and returned it to Athena.
What uncle and former fiancee of Andromeda was Perseus forced to turn into stone at their wedding feast?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Phineus. Phineus had been betrothed to Andromeda before she was tied to a boulder to be devoured by a sea monster. Cepheus offered Perseus her hand in marriage if he saved her life, and Perseus eagerly complied. At their wedding feast, an angry Phineus and some of his supporters attacked Perseus, who was forced to turn them into stone using the head of Medusa.
Who was the only daughter of Perseus and Andromeda?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Gorgophone. Although most accounts say Perseus and Andromeda had quite a few sons, Perses being one of them, Gorgophone, whose name means "slaying of the Gorgon," is the only daughter ever mentioned. Cassiopeia was the unfortunate mother of Andromeda and Phaedra was the second wife of Theseus and a princess of Crete.
With what did Perseus kill his grandfather?Important Heroes in Greek Mythology #1: Perseus
Discus. Perseus happened to be competing in funeral games in Thessaly where Acrisius was in attendance. He accidentally threw his discus with too much force, killing Acrisius, who was a spectator there, thus fulfilling the prophesy that Acrisius had tried so hard to avoid.
Our story starts out on a sadder note. Perseus had a mom, who was very beautiful. However, her father cast her adrift because there was a prophecy that her son would kill his grandfather. What was his mother's name? The Life and Times of Perseus
Danae. Danae's father was actually King Acrisius, Perseus's grandfather. Persephone is married to Hades and Aphrodite and Athena are both goddesses.
Now that we know who Perseus's mother was, can you tell me who his father was? The Life and Times of Perseus
Zeus. Yes, Perseus is one of Zeus's many successful children.
Now there was a man who had grown fond of Danae but Perseus was a very protective son, and made sure that this man wouldn't get to her. What was this man's name? The Life and Times of Perseus
Polydectes. Polydectes wanted to get to Danae but Perseus wouldn't let him. Perseus made sure that no one got to his mother. This would soon change though.
Now this man who had grown fond of Danae eventually devised a plan to get rid of Perseus so he could finally be with Danae. What was this plan? The Life and Times of Perseus
He was going to send Perseus to slay Medusa. Yes he sent him to slay Medusa because he was sure that there was no way that he could ever return. Polydectes thought he was home free, until something else happened.
Now what this particular man didn't know is that Perseus had some help, and this wasn't just normal help, he had the help of the gods. What two gods aided Perseus on his quest? The Life and Times of Perseus
Athena and Hermes. These two gods would end up helping Perseus a great deal on his quest by watching over him and giving him a few things to help him.
What were the gifts that Perseus received from the two gods who aided him? The Life and Times of Perseus
A bag and winged sandals. The bag was to put Medusa's head in so that no one could see it after he had slain her and the winged sandals were so that he could fly around Medusa and stay away from her deathly gaze.
When Perseus had reached the object of his quest, what did he to do to complete it? The Life and Times of Perseus
He used a shield to reflect its gaze back into its eyes and then chopped off its head. Yes, it was a brilliant plan. After he had slain her he put the head in his bag and set off back to his home, ready to shock everyone.
Now on his way home Perseus encountered someone who had been chained to the sea as a sacrifice. He fell in love with this woman and bargained with her father for her hand in marriage. Who was this woman? The Life and Times of Perseus
Andromeda. The bargain was that if Perseus killed the monster that she was being sacrificed to he could marry her. Perseus succeeded of course and they eventually got married.
When Perseus returned home and found that the man who had sent him on his quest was pestering his mother what did he do to him?The Life and Times of Perseus
Using Medusa's head, he turned him to stone. He had learned that Medusa's head was a useful tool as he had turned many people to stone with it on his journey back.
Finally, going back to question one. Did the prophecy of Perseus killing his grandfather ever come true? The Life and Times of Perseus

Yes. He did end up killing him; however, it was an accident. One day Perseus was throwing a discus that went wild and struck his grandfather, killing him, and that is the story of Perseus.

Alexandra chatted with WWD about the movie and why she signed on for the role of Annabeth, daughter of Athena in the flick. She shared, “Greek gods are so human in so many ways — they love and they hate and they get jealous — and that’s what makes the stories about them so exciting.”
Alexandra even admitted that she picked up a few skills on the set of Percy like archery and fencing. She laughs, “Though I don’t know if I could get into an actual sword fight if I had the chance.”

J.K. Rowling's Secrets!

Here are some little known facts about J. K. Rowling.

J. K. stands for Joanne Kathleen. J. K. Rowling chose to use initials for her books because her publisher feared that if readers knew she was female, they would lose interest in the boy wizard, Harry Potter. Of course,
everyone later learned this was hardly the case.

Harry Potter was created on napkins while J. K. Rowling was a single mother traveling by train. She completed her first book-length manuscript on an old manual typewriter while she was unemployed and living on state benefits.

Twelve publishing houses initially rejected her first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A small publisher, Bloomsbury, finally decided to give Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling a chance, awarding the author a small advance.

J. K. Rowling experienced quite a turnaround with the success of Harry Potter, and in 2006, the author was named the second richest female entertainer in the world behind Oprah Winfrey. Her fortune is estimated at just over One Billion U.S. Dollars.

The sixth book of the Harry Potter series sold more copies in twenty-four hours than The Da Vinci Code sold in a year. It also earned the Guinness Book of World Records Award for being the fastest selling book ever.

J. K. Rowling has assured the world that the seventh book in the Harry Potter series will also be the last. Although famous authors such as Stephen King and John Irving have begged J. K. Rowling not to kill off Harry Potter, the author has remained ambiguous about the boy wizard's fate.

J. K. Rowling contributes a good deal of money and support to charitable causes. She has suggested that she might publish an encyclopedia of the Harry Potter world, and contribute any and all earnings from the publication to charity.

Harry Potter Facts...

Fun Harry Potter Facts About Hogwarts #1: School Motto

The school motto of Hogwarts is Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus, which is Latin for "Never Tickle a Sleeping Dragon". It may not be your average school motto, but in the wizard world, this is really good advice.

Fun Harry Potter Facts About Hogwarts #2: Animals on the Crest

On the Hogwarts crest, you will find a badger, serpent, lion, and raven. These animals represent each house. The Gryffindor House is a lion. The Hufflepuff House features a badger. The Ravenclaw House is of course a raven and most fittingly the Slytherin House features a serpent.

Fun Harry Potter Facts About Hogwarts #3: School Punishments

We all know that our main characters have been threatened with being expelled, but for the most part the punishments at Hogwarts are pretty tame. We have seen the characters of the Harry Potter series receive detention, have house points deducted, and we have even seen them sent to their Head of House. Of course, in book 4 Draco was turned into a ferret and Harry Potter was punished severely in book 5, but both of these were rare instances.

Fun Harry Potter Facts About Hogwarts #4: Grades

You won't see A's or even B's at Hogwarts. In fact, in the Harry Potter series, you will see grades like outstanding and troll. Passing grades include Outstanding, Exceeds Expectations, and Acceptable. The failing grades include Poor, Dreadful, and Troll.

1. Daniel Radcliffe got a kick out of Dumbledore’s “outing.”
“I thought it was hilarious,” Radcliffe told us about his reaction to Rowling’s late-2007 revelation that she “always saw Dumbledore as gay.” Radcliffe continued, “But what was even funnier about it was the reaction from people who were up in arms about it. I don’t think it really matters. He’s [Rowling's] character and she can do what she likes with him.” Michael Gambon, who plays the sage headmaster, was “camping it up around the set for a couple weeks” after the news broke, Radcliffe reports. We can only hope there’s footage available of that for the DVD.
2. It takes “about 10 takes” for the perfect kiss.
Or at least that’s how many takes Rupert Grint estimates were shot for the first of a few smooches between Ron and Lavender (Jessie Cave). “Quite embarrassing” is how the reserved Grint describes the scene’s filming. “We were both quite nervous and [director David Yates] was really good and only let it go on for about 10 takes.” Only? To make matters worse, Grint and Lavender were performing for a live audience. “I had a room full of people cheering,” Grint says. Well, he must be doing something right.
Continue for facts 3-5
3. A “Bizarro World” exists on the set of ‘Potter.’
One of the first things you notice wandering around the outskirts-of-London set of ‘Potter’? There are twice the number of main characters. Each lead has a stand-in, and they look so strikingly similar (and are also sporting identical costumes), it’s easy to confuse them at any distance. “It’s weird,” Grint admits. “And they all sit together at lunchtime!” Emma Watson even admits she wishes she could send her body double to education classes in her place. The only problem? “She’s like 24, something like that,” Watson says.
4. Radcliffe isn’t exactly Homer Simpson when it comes to bacon.
During the scene we watched filmed, Harry and Ron discuss a forthcoming Quidditch match over breakfast in the Hogwarts dining hall; and take after take we watch them nibble on seemingly fresh plates of bacon and eggs. Sounds like a food lover’s dream, right? Wrong. Radcliffe was so sick and tired of bacon, he took to feeding a 10-year-old extra who couldn’t get enough of it. “I’ve been turning around and shoving all my bacon onto his plate just to amuse myself,” Radcliffe laughs. “He seems to be having a good time.” Mmmm?
5. Rupert Grint won’t be selling ice cream any time soon.
Anyone who follows the exploits of the ‘Potter’ cast (religiously or otherwise) probably knows that the quirky Grint is the proud owner of an ice cream truck. Why not live out your childhood fantasies when you have the means, right? But Grint, at the time of our visit, hadn’t yet brought his parlor-on-wheels to set (the 1970s-built truck was having engine trouble at the time), and doesn’t plan on getting it licensed to you know, actually sell ice cream. “That’s quite complicated,” he says. “You have to go through all sorts of different health checks.”

Three of the first languages that Tolkien worked on as a child were Animalic (he explored this one with friends, and did not actually invent it himself), Nevbosh (meaning “new nonsense,” Tolkien helped to construct it and enjoyed conversing with his friends in it), and Naffarin (the first language he worked on alone at age eight or nine.)
4. By 1904, Tolkien and his brother were orphans. His father (Arthur) died of rheumatic fever in February of 1896. Mabel, their mother, died of complications from diabetes on 14 November 1904.
5. Tolkien met Edith Bratt about four years after his mother died. They lived in the same lodging house. She was three years older than Tolkien, but they gradually fell in love. Actually, Tolkien adored her. Unfortunately, his guardian felt that she was distracting him from his studies, and that at eighteen he was too young to marry. Tolkien agreed to not see her for three years, and she moved away to stay with friends. At midnight on the day he turned twenty-one Tolkien wrote to Edith asking when he could see her again. When he learned that she had become engaged to marry another man he boarded a train and went to convince her to marry him instead. Needless to say, he was successful.
6. At one point during his first semester at Oxford, Tolkien stole a city bus as a prank, and took his friends on a joyride.
7. Tolkien fought in World War I and lost all but one of his childhood friends there.
8. In 1918, Tolkien was hired to work on what was to become the Oxford English Dictionary. Started in 1879, by the time Tolkien joined the team they had finally reached the “W”s.
9. Tolkien earned a professorship at Oxford in 1925. (Very few of the faculty actually had a “professorship” at that time. A high honor indeed.)
10. Tolkien’s four children were the ultimate inspiration for his fiction writing. Can you imagine the sorts of bedtime stories that they got to hear?
11. Tolkien was a big fan of clubs. Two of the clubs he was a member of at Oxford were the “Coalbiters” and “The Inklings.” C.S. Lewis was one of the members of The Inklings.
12. Rayner Unwin, age ten at the time, is the one who judged The Hobbit worthy of publishing. He was paid a shilling for his review. (For the record, his father, Sir Stanley Unwin, was the director of publisher George Allen & Unwin at that point.)
13. When Tolkien’s son Michael entered the army he listed his father’s profession on his paperwork as “Wizard.” It would seem that Michael really understood his father.
